For Arbor Day 2025, NOVA Parks planted new redbud trees in the Town of Vienna! Arboreal Advocate, Kevin Loewen discusses the event, focused on planting all native local ecotype:

This year, the Town of Vienna celebrated Arbor Day 2025 in a big way. On Friday, April 25th, NOVA Parks and the Vienna Parks and Recreation Department planted a variety of new trees at Moorefield Park. Focused on enriching the environment, volunteers planted trees and shrubs that are all of native local ecotype to the area. Strategically planted, the new generation of forest at the park supports the growing tree canopy of Vienna within Moorefield Park. Perfectly positioned near the dog park, the new trees will provide shelter and shade to dogs at play.
As an Arboreal Advocate who studies trees prolifically, Kevin Loewen is fascinated to learn that the Town of Vienna has planted new redbud trees at Moorefield Park. Large deciduous shrubs or small trees, the eastern redbud is native to eastern North America. The species thrives in a variety of habitats across North America, with trees flourishing in Michigan, Mexico, California, New Mexico and even parts of Canada. Oklahoma has claimed the redbud as their state tree. Displaying a majestic spread of vibrant buds, these trees add a pop of color to any area.
