Make this Arbor Day on April 25, 2025 one to remember! Arboreal Advocate and Sustainability Leader Kevin Loewen shares how you can celebrate the environmental conservation event in a lasting and impactful way:

Plant a Tree
This one might seem obvious… and that’s why it’s the first suggestion on Kevin Loewen’s list of ways to celebrate Arbor Day 2025! Tree planting is a sustainable way to promote environmental conservation through action. If you choose to plant a tree this Arbor Day, Arboreal Advocate Loewen strongly encourages you to do your research first. Be sure that the sapling or seeds that you plant are native to the area of planting. This is particularly important in order to avoid unwanted invasive species where they do not belong. Your tree is also much more likely to prosper in the proper climate and location. Learn the History
When was Arbor Day started? The first Arbor Day celebration took place on April 10, 1872, thanks to J. Sterling Morton, journalist, arboreal advocate and former governor of Nebraska. The intention behind Arbor Day was clear from day one: to encourage more tree planting. More than one million trees were planted in Nebraska on the first Arbor Day in history. This year, Kevin Loewen encourages you to make history by proposing similar initiatives in your community.
Find Your Town’s Oldest Tree
Do you know which tree in your town or city is the oldest? On Arbor Day, plan the arboreal scavenger hunt of the year! Identifying the oldest tree in your community can be a powerful way to remind everyone of the importance of tree planting — the true meaning of Arbor Day!
